Pop culture trends are far more extensive and expressive than they were even just a few decades ago. Of those individualistic trends, body jewelry is one of the most popular. Body jewelry is essentially piercings on one uncommon places on the body. Through these piercings individuals may wear a variety of different accessories ranging from a sparkly stud to a point spike. A few of the now more common body piercings are:

  • Earrings: Earrings are the most common and social acceptable forms of wearing body jewelry. This is proven by the ease with which a person can have his or her ears pierced.  It doesn't even require a special salon, just a jewelry store in a shopping mall. The most common ear piercing is at the bottom of the lobe, however, as individuals look to differentiate themselves from their peers, ear piercings have crept up the side of ears.  Today it is not uncommon to see piercings lining the side of an individual’s ear, or maybe on piercing at the bottom and one at the top.
  • Navel: Navel piercings, also known as belly button rings have become nearly as popular and acceptable as earrings. As girls (and guys) wish to draw attention to their midsections, wearing an eye-catching piece of body jewelry around the naval has become extremely popular. Like other body jewelry, belly button rings have become more in depth and more creative in recent years.  This midsection piercing that hides below a shirt is perfect for those who need to have a blank canvas during the work day but prefer more expression during the week.
  • Nose: Nose piercings were once thought of to be only for the rebellious teens of the 1980’s, they are however, becoming more acceptable depending on the type and the placement. Wearing a small ring in the side of one's nostril is less daring than it once was and it's now becoming socially acceptable, even in the corporate world.
  • Eyebrow: Another common way to wear body jewelry, the eyebrow piercing is popular among those in their late teens and early twenties. Short barbells and narrow hoops are two of the most popular pieces of body jewelry to be worn int his piercing.
  • Tongue: Tongue rings are relatively easy to hide in the mouth so they are another kind of body jewelry that's gaining popularity. The primary concern people have are the initial swelling which will temporarily change one's speech and ability to eat some foods. Tongue piercings can also damage the enamel on teeth.

Body jewelry is a popular way to express one’s self in a non-permanent matter. Many piercings are easily coverable, allowing a person to express themselves outside of the workplace while remaining professional during business hours.
